How Handmade Pieces Are Created: Check out this video to see how I make a copper keepsake box. Most of the art pieces in my line are created through a series of classical metalsmithing techniques including making dies by hand for the hydraulic press out of plexi glass, annealing and pressing the metal, adding wire borders, silver soldering, cutting, drilling and piercing with a jeweler’s saw, filing, sanding, and polishing. Once the masters are created to the best of my (and sometimes with the help of fellow artists) ability, then they are molded and cast by small art foundries within Northern California and Rhode Island. After the castings come in they are carefully inspected for quality. Some designs require additional fabrication and finishing in order to be ready to be enjoyed. All finishing is done here in our San Francisco metal art studio.
