Education

Jewish Education
I was given a reform Jewish education from the age of three at Temple Israel of Hollywood in Los Angeles CA, including Sunday school, Hebrew school, a Bat-Mitzvah, confirmation, a two month trip to Israel in 1989, and a trip to Poland in 2000, visiting my familys' former shtetl Chmelnic, and participating in the silent "March of the Living" from Auschwitz to Birkenau Concentration Camps.

Since then I have continued my own Jewish learning by reading the five books of the Torah, exploring stories from the Zohar and passages in the Talmud, and several books on Kabbalah. I have consulted with many Rabbis about my work including Rabbi Burt Jacobson from Kehilla Community Synagogue in Berkeley, Rabbi Yehuda Ferris from Chabad in Berkeley, Rabbi Jonathan Omer-man a mystic also in Berkeley, Rabbi Yolles of Brooklyn New York, and Rabbi Scott Slarsky a Jewish Educator at the JCC in San Francisco. I have studied Tanya (the Chassidic Bible) and Torah with Chassidic Masters Rabbi Ari Hecht and Sarah Hecht of RTC Chabad. I am a life member Hadassah and a member of the progressive Jewish Renewal congregation Kehilla Community Synagogue.

College Education
A graduate of San Francisco State University, Cum Laude with a BA in Sociology and a minor in Metal Art, I learned about racism, genocide, and the ways in which societies function, while falling in love with the craft of metalsmithing. With the help of my supportive parents Mitch and Susan Golant and beloved teacher, Dawn Nakanishi, I began making mezuzah cases in 1993. Upon my graduation in 1996, I decided to pursue a career as a metalsmith, artist & educator.
